The importance of the cold chain:

Don't break the cold chain! Berries should be shipped, warehoused and displayed at the optimum temperature of 32-34° F. For every hour a berry is not cooled, one day of shelf life is lost. Berries should be displayed in refrigerated cases or shelves away from misters.

Merchandising tips:

  • Display the full line of colorful berries in multiple packaging sizes together to entice multiple purchases
  • Display with complementary items to create suggestive selling ideas — yogurt, cereal, desserts, whipped cream
  • Add secondary refrigerated display during promotions
  • Keep the display well-stocked, neat and looking fresh
  • Merchandise berries in the front of the department — they are hot!
  • Use point-of-sale material to draw attention to their benefits

  • Promotional ideas:

  • Feature berries around key holidays and events
  • Focus on the nutritional benefits of berries
  • Use themes that feature convenience or usage ideas
  • Cross promote with complementary products
  • Sample to attract new users
  • Use point of sale materials
  • Use buy one, get one free ads

  • Tips for your shoppers:

  • Berries do not ripen once picked
  • Always keep your berries refrigerated
  • Wash berries just prior to use
  • Berries are considered 'superfoods' because they are full of antioxidants
